BURBANK : City Estimates Quake Losses at $4.8 Million

Damage to city of Burbank facilities from the Northridge earthquake will total about $4.8 million, according to an estimate to be presented to the City Council tonight.

During the earthquake, 47 city buildings were damaged along with city streets, traffic signals and the power and water systems. The city has spent $1.6 million in repairs so far. Tonight, the City Council is scheduled to consider hiring a consultant to prepare Burbank’s application for federal and state aid.

The consultant, David M. Griffith and Associates of Chicago, would provide management services as well as apply for federal and state aid. The company is expected to charge $25,000.
