Paul O’Liney, a key reserve at Missouri, was arrested early Tuesday for allegedly punching a woman in the face several times outside a nightclub.

Coach Norm Stewart said the guard, who is averaging 9.4 points a game, probably will be suspended for at least one game.

Oregon State Coach Jim Anderson was told about his future with the team, but the decision won’t be revealed until today. Dutch Baughman, the athletic director, said he wanted to give Anderson a chance to talk to his players and family before making an announcement.

Anderson has a 70-72 record with the Beavers, but his only winning season was in 1990 when they were 22-7 and shared the Pac-10 championship.

Bernadette Locke-Mattox turned down a chance to be promoted to an associate basketball coach at Kentucky, Coach Rick Pitino said.

Locke-Mattox, an assistant, was offered the position after Billy Donovan was hired to coach at Marshall University last week. She has been on the Kentucky staff since June 1990.

Auburn Coach Tommy Joe Eagles, who had only one winning season in five years, resigned. . . . Will Rey quit as coach at Loyola of Chicago after winning only 45 games in five years.
