A man accused of trying to kill his ex-girlfriend and her son was mistakenly released from jail for the second time in four months.

Roy Alexander, 41, was able to leave the county jail Wednesday because his bond was incorrectly recorded as $500, instead of $500,000, Sheriff’s Cmdr. Marvin Wusthoff said. A friend posted the bond.

Alexander was returned to jail Thursday.

In December, Alexander was mistakenly released on an eight-hour furlough, without police escort, to attend a brother’s funeral.

Jacqueline Harris, whom Alexander is accused of shooting, waited with her children in the sheriff’s office Thursday until Alexander was back in jail. When Alexander was released in December, Harris and her children stayed at a shelter for battered women.

Alexander’s trial is scheduled for April 25.
