Two Reseda men were shot and critically wounded Saturday by an armed intruder who pretended to be interested in buying a computer that one of the men had recently listed in the Recycler, a weekly advertiser, Los Angeles police said.

A man in his early 20s knocked on the door of a house in the 18400 block of Keswick Street about 6 p.m. and inquired about the computer. Once inside, the man allegedly pulled a handgun and bound both men with rope, said Sgt. Roger Ferguson of LAPD’s West Valley Division.

One of the victims managed to free himself and got a handgun of his own. A shootout ensued, leaving both victims with chest wounds, Ferguson said.

Police believe at least one shot hit the suspect as he ran from the house. The computer, which police believe the intruder intended to steal, was not taken, Ferguson said.

The two victims were listed in critical condition at Northridge Hospital Medical Center.

A woman also was in the house during the attempted holdup, but was not injured, police said.
