An Irvine woman who was shot in the face on a Los Angeles freeway Sunday night was in serious condition Monday with a bullet lodged in her throat, authorities said.

Rhonda Rogers, 32, was hospitalized at Martin Luther King, Jr.-Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles with a fractured jaw, a lacerated tongue, and a bullet in her throat after the 11:45 p.m. shooting, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Benita Hinojos.

Rogers was driving east on the Century Freeway in South-Central Los Angeles after dropping off her boyfriend at Los Angeles International Airport, Hinojos said. Just before the Vermont Avenue exit, a yellow car pulled alongside Rogers and a single shot was fired, the bullet striking her in the left cheek. Rogers pulled over and called 911 on her cellular phone, Hinojos said.
