PREP TRACK AND FIELD ROUNDUP : Yankoff Boosts Santa Margarita

Derek Yankoff, who was Santa Margarita’s quarterback and a guard on the basketball team, competed in his first high school track meet and helped the Eagles to an 87-47 victory over University in a Sea View League meet Thursday at Santa Margarita.

Yankoff won the long jump (20 feet 2 inches) and the triple jump (40-8). Teammate Josh Budimlya won the both hurdle races, the 100 in 16.5 second and the 300 in 43.5.

In other Sea View League boys’ meets:

Newport Harbor 77, Tustin 53--Aaron Ward won the 200 (24.0) and 400 (54.2) for Newport Harbor (3-0).

Woodbridge 76, Corona del Mar 53--Tony Muniz won the 300 hurdles (43.7) and the high jump (6-0) for Woodbridge (4-0, 3-0). Teammate Dan Rust won the 110 hurdles (18.4) and the pole vault (10-0). Jason Boyce finished first in the 100 (10.5) and the long jump (22-2) for Corona del Mar (3-1, 2-1).

In the Century League:

Villa Park 75, El Modena 28--Phil Sitner won the 880 (2:00.3) and mile (4:42.8) and Grant Pearsall won the 100 (10.1) for Villa Park (1-3, 1-1). El Modena is 3-1, 1-1.

In the South Coast League:

Dana Hills 69, El Toro 58--Micha Dennison won the 200 (23.3) and 400 (51.4) for Dana Hills (3-0).

In the Garden Grove League:

Los Amigos 65, Santiago 53--Senior Jason Weiss won three events, the 440 (55.9), 330 hurdles (42.56) and high jump (5-4) for undefeated Los Amigos (3-0, 3-0). Carlos Sianez won the shot put (50-9) for the Lobos.

Kennedy 65, Pacifica 56--Don Ballares won the 100 (11.4) and 200 (24.5) and Daniel Perez won the 1,600 (5:12.9) and 3,200 (11:30.33) for host Kennedy (1-4, 1-4).

In the Sunset League:

Edison 73, Westminster 53--Jason Oshiro won the 110 hurdles (18.6), 300 hurdles (44.9) and long jump (17-5) for visiting Edison (2-1, 2-1). Sophomore Kent Roberts ran a personal best 10:31 in the 3,200 for Westminster.

In the Orange League:

Savanna 68, Brea-Olinda 64--Mike Flores won the 100 (10.2) and 220 (24.1), and Luke Cunningham won the 120 hurdles (16.5) and 330 hurdles (43.2) for Savanna (4-0, 1-0). Brea-Olinda is 5-4, 0-1.

In Century League girls’ track and field:

El Modena 56, Villa Park 38--Junior Sommer Mitchell won the 220 (28.2) and 330 hurdles (51.3) for Villa Park (0-4, 0-2). El Modena is 4-0, 2-0.

In the Sea View League:

Santa Margarita 88, University 18--Barbara Scheil won the 100 meters (13.2), 200 (27.3) and was part of the winning 400 relay (51.6) for undefeated Santa Margarita.

Katie Nuanes won the 800 (2:24.2) and 1,600 (5:40.2) for the Eagles (3-0, 3-0).

Newport Harbor 104, Tustin 16--Lindsey Curtis won the 100 (14.3) and 300 hurdles (50.0) for Newport Harbor (3-0). Teammate Piper Archibald finished first in the 200 (28.3) and 400 (1:05.8). Also for the Sailors, Mandy Clayton won the 100 hurdles (19.8) and the long jump (13-0 1/2).

Woodbridge 80, Corona del Mar 42--Erin Stovall took first place in the 100 (12.9) and the long jump (15-7) for Woodbridge (3-1, 2-1). Teammate Angela Burgess won the shot put (37-8) and the discus (114-9) and Megan McQuaid won the 200 (27.9) and the triple jump (33-9). Tracy Clark won the 1,600 (5:45.5) and the 3,200 (12:50) for Corona del Mar (2-2, 1-2).

In the Garden Grove League:

Santiago 71, Los Amigos 47--Reyna Harrell won the 100 yards (14.03) and 220 (29.30) for Santiago (4-0, 4-0). Spring Trammell won the shot put (35-4) and discus (117-3) for visiting Los Amigos (2-1, 2-1).

Pacifica 67, Kennedy 59--Amy Sokoll won the 100 (13.5) and 200 (30.8) and Summer McKloskey won the long jump (14-7) and triple jump for host Kennedy (0-4).

In the Sunset League:

Edison 115 1/2, Westminster 11 1/2--Kerry O’Bric won the 300 hurdles (49.4), long jump (14-11) and triple jump (33-8) and Marie Philman won the 100 hurdles (17.1), high jump (4-10) and discus (108-0) and Kelly Marshall won the 200 (27.4) and 400 (1:04.1) to lead Edison (4-0, 3-0).

In the Orange League:

Brea-Olinda 95, Savanna 29--Freshman Yvette Mungia won the triple jump (28-8) and long jump (14-8 1/2) for visiting Brea (4-3, 1-0). Junior Marsha Conrad was also a double winner, winning the shot put (32-10) and discus (103-5) for Brea.
