Garden Grove Man Slain; Friend Held

A 28-year-old Garden Grove man was shot to death in a storage yard Friday, in what his lifelong friend told police was an accident. Police arrested the friend on suspicion of murder.

Barry James Stark was killed by a single shot to the head about 2 p.m. inside a trailer parked at Mini-Pac storage in the 6700 block of Lincoln Avenue, according to Lt. James Schoales.

Gregory David Bright, also 28 and also of Garden Grove, told the park’s manager that he had shot his friend, who he said he has known since elementary school, by accident with a .22-caliber rifle, police said. Bright asked the manager to call 911.

Paramedics pronounced Stark dead at the scene and Bright was arrested on suspicion of murder, Schoales said.
