23 is SuperSonics’ Lucky Number in 111-97 Victory
Gary Payton scored 23 points and the Seattle SuperSonics forced 23 turnovers Monday night in beating the Denver Nuggets, 111-97, at Seattle.
The SuperSonics shot under 40% for the third time this season but their defense carried them to their fifth straight victory and 14th in their last 17 games.
LaPhonso Ellis led the Nuggets with 20 points on 10-for-16 shooting. Dikembe Mutombo had 21 rebounds and nine points for the Nuggets, who had their four-game win streak end. Seattle converted 34 of 43 free throws to the Nuggets’ 20 of 31.
