PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Canyon Holds On to Win in Las Vegas

Darren Chandler had two hits and scored two runs and Casey Wilson had two hits and drove in a run to lead Canyon to a 5-4 victory over Bell Gardens in pool play at the Las Vegas Durango Tournament Wednesday.

Bell Gardens scored four runs in the top of the seventh on two walks, a hit, two hit batters and a wild pitch. But the Comanches (7-4) were able to hold on by forcing a popup to end the inning. In an earlier game, Canyon lost to San Diego Mira Mesa, 1-0. The Comanches will play Tuscon Sabino today.

In Sunset League baseball:

Marina 12, Westminster 2--David Titov and Travis Anderson each had three hits, with Titov scoring three runs and Anderson driving in three for Marina (8-4, 2-1).

Justin Lynch went the distance, allowing four hits, all in the first inning for the Vikings.

In the Santa Ana Elks Tournament:

Foothill 8, Mission Viejo 7 (8 innings)--Bill Reinsch’s single drove in the winning run for Foothill (7-6). Ryan Zeber led off the inning with a single and was replaced by pinch-runner Jeff Spurlock, who scored the winning run. Jeff Pickler had three hits for the Knights, drove in three runs and scored two.

For Mission Viejo (3-12), T.J. Kopkash hit a bases-empty home run in top of the seventh to tie the score, 7-7, and send the game into extra innings.

Saddleback 13, Buena Park 11--Tony Zuniga hit a three-run inside-the-park home run to cap an 11-run fifth inning and lead Saddleback (7-6-1) in a consolation game. Sam Perla had three hits, including a triple, and scored two runs for Saddleback. Buena Park is 4-5.

Santa Ana Valley 4, Redlands 1--Johnny Garcia had a triple and a single, scored a run and had two stolen bases for Santa Ana Valley (6-7), which gave Falcon Coach Herschel Musick his 299th career victory. Robert Serrano pitched a complete game, striking out seven for the Falcons.
