GTE Customers to Get Small Refunds
About 200,000 Ventura County residents will see a small refund on their telephone bills this summer, officials with GTE California announced Friday.
The refund to GTE customers in Thousand Oaks, Westlake, Camarillo, Oxnard, Port Hueneme and Santa Paula will be passed along as a 3.35% credit on customers’ bills for August and September, officials said.
That averages to about a $1 monthly savings for typical residential customers, company spokesman Mike Murray said. The credit will go toward all local and toll calls made using GTE, he said.
GTE is mandated by the Public Utilities Commission to share any earnings above a certain percentage with its customers, Murray said. The refunds reflect GTE’s earnings in 1993, he said.
Refunds will be given only during those two months, then normal billing procedures will resume, Murray said.
Refunds will be paid to GTE’s nearly 3.1 million customers in California, company officials said.
