HUNTINGTON BEACH : Man Leaps From Overpass to Death
Authorities were probing the apparent suicide Monday morning of a man who leaped from the McFadden Avenue overpass onto the San Diego Freeway, causing a 10-mile tie-up of northbound freeway traffic.
A 74-year-old Anaheim resident jumped off the overpass onto the northbound lanes at 7:15 a.m., dying instantly, according to city police and the county coroner’s office.
Joan Rivas, a spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol, said that the two lanes next to the car-pool diamond lane were closed for about two hours and that “everybody was stuck in traffic.”
Traffic returned to normal about 10 a.m., Rivas said.
