COLLEGE BASKETBALL / DAILY REPORT : ACROSS THE NATION : Ellis Takes Auburn Job
When Cliff Ellis resigned after a decade as Clemson’s basketball coach, he said he was looking for new challenges. He found a big one, taking over an Auburn team that has had only one winning season in six years.
After a three-week search that involved at least two other coaches removing themselves from consideration, Ellis agreed to a five-year contract to replace Tommy Joe Eagles, whose record in five seasons was 64-78.

Clemson basketball player Devin Gray was in serious condition after an apparent heart attack.
He was in the coronary care unit at Greenville (S.C.) Memorial Hospital.
Gray, a starting forward who averaged 14.4 points and six rebounds as a junior last season, suffered chest pains Monday night, about 50 minutes after a conditioning session at Littlejohn Coliseum, the school said. Earlier in the day, he had lifted weights and played several pickup basketball games.
