Klosterman, LeBaron Apply to Run Hollypark Card Club

A couple of former quarterbacks, Don Klosterman and Eddie LeBaron, have applied to the state’s department of gaming registration for a lease to operate the card-playing club at Hollywood Park.

Klosterman, who played football at Loyola before his professional career was ended by a skiing accident, and Don Robbins, the president of Hollywood Park, confirmed the application Wednesday.

LeBaron, who played at College of the Pacific before joining the Washington Redskins to begin a long pro career, is a lawyer in Sacramento. Klosterman, a former general manager of the Rams, served 10 years on Hollywood Park’s board of directors.

The card club is expected to open this year. Because of its status as a corporation, Hollywood Park is prevented by state law from operating the club.

The application comes after the state attorney general’s office disapproved an application by Ed Allred and Haig Kellegian because Allred had previously owned stock in out-of-state gambling businesses.
