COLLEGE BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Zeichick’s Inside Job Propels Valley Rally

Jamie Zeichick hit an inside-the-park grand slam with two out in the ninth inning Thursday to highlight a six-run rally and lift Valley College to an 11-5 Western State Conference baseball victory over Ventura.

Zeichick’s line drive to left-center rolled to more than 400 feet from home plate for his fourth home run.

Jorge Dorado was four for four, including a pair of triples, for Valley (9-14-1, 7-7 in conference play).

Brandon Knight doubled for Ventura. Marco Grajales pitched a complete game for the Pirates, allowing 14 hits.

Canyons 5, Oxnard 4--Dave Castillo’s ninth-inning single drove home John Davis with the winning run of a WSC game at Oxnard.

Castillo, Chris Pfatenhauer, Ari Jacobs and Vinnie Orlando each had three hits for Canyons (10-14, 6-8), which broke a six-game losing streak.

Sophomore right-hander Craig Arnold (3-4), who had notched two victories and two saves recently, took the loss in relief of Chad Olthoff.

Oxnard fell to 11-14, 5-6 in conference play.

Santa Monica 11, Moorpark 3--Santa Monica scored five runs in the second inning on its way to a WSC victory at Moorpark.

Moorpark is 13-11-1, 6-4 in conference play.

Glendale 10, Santa Barbara 3--Freshman center fielder Brian Warner went three for five, including two doubles and a grand slam, leading Glendale to a WSC victory at Santa Barbara.

Armando Mesa, Andy Wright and Lance Evans had two hits apiece for Glendale.

Sophomore left-hander John Nall (4-2) went the distance to pick up the victory.

Chaffey 10, Antelope Valley 1--Mario Najera (three for four, two doubles and two runs), David Munoz (a double and two runs) and Caesar Barrera (two for four) led a 14-hit attack for Chaffey (24-5, 11-2) in a Foothill Conference game at Lancaster.

Jeff Bowne, Eric Cole and William Wallace each had two hits for Antelope Valley (11-9, 5-6).
