A Newhall man was killed Sunday when the Ford Bronco in which he was a passenger collided with an oncoming car, authorities said.

Manuel Perez, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries in the collision, which took place on San Fernando Road just north of Sierra Highway about 1:30 p.m., authorities said.

The driver of the Bronco, Alfredo Contreas, 41, of Pacoima, was booked on suspicion of drunk driving at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department station in Santa Clarita, authorities said.

According to sheriff’s deputies, the accident occurred when Contreas, traveling south on San Fernando Road, attempted to turn left into the driveway of a mobile home parking lot.

Sean Tarrabe, 26, of North Hollywood, who was driving a 1988 Toyota north on San Fernando, collided with the Bronco, authorities said.

The impact of the collision caused the Bronco to spin, throwing Perez from the vehicle, authorities said. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Tarrabe was treated for minor injuries at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, authorities said.

Luis Zamora, 52, of Pacoima, a second passenger in the Bronco, was taken to the same hospital and treated for unspecified injuries.
