OXNARD : Man Turns Himself In After Slaying
A 19-year-old Oxnard man died early Sunday in the emergency room at St. John’s Regional Medical Center after being stabbed in the chest by another man, who turned himself in to police, officials said.
David Rubio was found slumped in an alley behind the 5200 block of Columbus Place, bleeding from a single stab wound to the chest, Oxnard Police Sgt. Cliff Troy said.
He was transported to St. John’s, where he was pronounced dead at 4:19 a.m., a coroner’s spokeswoman said.
Donald William Culbertson, 22, of Oxnard, approached officers as they investigated the scene shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday and turned himself in, Troy said.
Culbertson told police that he and Rubio had been arguing over Rubio’s use of a vehicle owned by Culbertson’s sister. The suspect was booked at Ventura County Jail, where he is being held on $280,000 bail on suspicion of murder.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Ventura County Municipal Court, a jail spokeswoman said.
