Paez Fights at Forum With Eye to De La Hoya
Jorge Paez of Mexicali, Mexico, a former International Boxing Federation featherweight champion, takes on Mauricio Aceves of Mexico City in a 10-round lightweight fight tonight at the Forum.
If Paez, 49-6-4 with 34 knockouts, wins his next two fights, he probably will box Oscar De La Hoya this summer. Aceves, a former WBO lightweight champion, is 26-12-1 with 20 knockouts.
There are two other fights on tonight’s card, which begins at 7:30. David Dixon of Los Angeles meets Mike Faulkner of Memphis in a heavyweight bout and unbeaten Jorge Monzon of Mexico City meets Roberto Chala of Colombia in a featherweight fight.
Dixon, who has won his last six fights, five by knockout, is 17-2 with 15 knockouts. Faulkner is 11-8 with eight knockouts. Monzon is 12-0 with eight knockouts, and Chala is 7-5 with five knockouts.
