Three women believed to be involved in a gunfight that injured one of them were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder early Monday after they allegedly opened fire on a news photographer who followed their car from the scene.

Arrested were Tho Minh Luu, 20, of Yorba Linda; Hong Thanh Le, 21, of Santa Ana; and Mindy Nguyen Dao, 23, of Canoga Park.

Dao was taken to Western Medical Center in Anaheim, where she was being treated for a gunshot wound in the back. Police said the injury did not appear life-threatening.

The incident began shortly after midnight when Glenn Zachman, a 32-year-old independent news photographer from Garden Grove, noticed the occupants of two cars shooting at each other as they drove near the intersection of Harbor and Garden Grove boulevards.

As Zachman began following one of the cars, police said, its occupants started firing at him as they drove down Garden Grove Boulevard. The other car disappeared, fleeing in a different direction.

Eventually, according to Lt. John Woods, a spokesman for the Garden Grove Police Department, the car Zachman was following hit a retaining wall near Memory Lane and Flower Street in Santa Ana, where its three occupants were arrested by Santa Ana police.

The photographer was not injured.

Police are searching for the occupants of the other car involved in the gunfight. They believe that the incident was gang-related.
