PREP ROUNDUP : Western, Woods Edge Valencia in Golf

Western beat Valencia, 203-206, in an Orange League golf match Tuesday, marking the second time in eight years the Pioneers have beaten the Tigers.

It also was the first time in eight tries that Western has won at Alta Vista Country Club. The victory leaves Western, Valencia and Brea-Olinda tied for first with 3-1 records.

Tiger Woods shot two-under-par 35 for Western, including an eagle on the par-5, 468-yard seventh hole. Woods hit a three wood, then a seven iron to the green and made his putt.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Trabuco Hills 193, Laguna Hills 218--Jason Eynon shot one-over 37 and Su-O Kim shot two-over 38 to lead Trabuco Hills (8-2, 3-0) at Leisure World Golf Course.

In South Coast League tennis:

Dana Hills 15 2/3, Mission Viejo 5 1/3--Brandon Fallon swept at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1, 6-3, and Carlos Betancourt and Hanley Ernst swept at No. 3 doubles, 6-3, 6-2, 6-3, to lead Dana Hills (13-0, 3-0).

In the Century League:

Villa Park 11 2/3, Orange 9 1/3--No. 8 Villa Park (9-2) swept its singles sets. Ryan Hollis won, 6-1, 6-1, 6-3, Chad Smith won, 6-0, 6-1, 6-2, and B.K. Chang won, 6-2, 6-2, 6-3. No. 9 Orange is 9-2, 1-1.

In the Freeway League:

Sunny Hills 17, Sonora 1--Juno Kuan swept in singles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, and Hiren Bhavsar and Joey Springer swept in doubles, 6-2, 6-1, 6-0, for Sunny Hills (9-0, 4-0).

In Sunset League boys’ swimming:

Edison 100, Fountain Valley 86--Cory Tague won the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke and swam on Edison’s winning 400 freestyle relay team.

In South Coast League boys’ track and field:

San Clemente 87, Mater Dei 49--Victor Rublie won the 100 (11.13) and 200 (23.4) and Curtis Douglas won the 1,600 (4:41.8) and 3,200 (10:37) to lead San Clemente (1-0 in league).
