PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Kennedy’s Pitt Is Perfect in Her Fifth No-Hitter

Share

Less than 24 hours after pitching 14 innings against eighth-ranked Pacifica, Lisa Pitt found the perfect way to stamp Kennedy as the Garden Grove League favorite.

Pitt pitched a perfect game at second-place La Quinta as the fourth-ranked Fighting Irish scored a 4-0 victory Tuesday at Arnold Park. She struck out eight and got a gem-saving defensive play from shortstop Laurie Fritz in the fourth inning.

Fritz went over the middle to grab an apparent single and threw out Jaclyn Fredrickson. The only other threat was Barbara Holcomb’s swinging bunt leading off the sixth that Pitt fielded.

“I wouldn’t have got it without my defense,” said Pitt, who dueled to a 2-2 tie with Pacifica on Monday. “Warming up, I kinda felt like we would do well.”

For Pitt (12-1), it was her third no-hitter over a five-game, eight-day stretch. She now has five no-hitters. Kennedy is 14-4-1, 6-0-1; La Quinta (12-5, 5-2) dropped to third place.

“Lately, it seems like she steps to the rubber with a purpose,” Kennedy Coach Sue Hall said of Pitt, a junior. “She’s maturing.”

Joy Hannifan, Fritz, Jamie Pietranowicz and Crystal Gerringer had RBI singles for Kennedy.
