Flying Fan Man Lands in Jail for This Title Fight

The Fan Man landed in jail Thursday, so he won’t be landing in the middle of tonight’s Evander Holyfield-Michael Moorer heavyweight title fight.

As part of a deal to ensure that he would not repeat the paragliding stunt he pulled last November at the last Caesars Palace outdoor fight, James Miller, a.k.a., the Fan Man, pleaded guilty to a charge of misdemeanor trespassing during the Holyfield-Riddick Bowe fight and began an eight-day jail term Thursday.

Miller, of Henderson, Nev., used a motorized parachute to glide over the ring, then crashed into the ring ropes in the middle of the seventh round last November. He was facing the possibility of a one-year sentence until the deal was struck.

“Good,” said Bowe when asked for a response to the sentence. “The guy should have been in (jail) last time.”

Miller also flew over the Coliseum during the Raiders’ wild-card playoff game against the Denver Broncos last January but was followed by a police helicopter and arrested before he could cause a disturbance.
