PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : La Habra’s Big Inning Buries Fullerton

La Habra scored six runs in the seventh inning to upset No. 8 Fullerton, 12-7, in a Freeway League baseball game Friday at Fullerton.

Fullerton (15-4, 7-2 in league) remained alone in first place because Buena Park (10-7, 6-3) lost to Sunny Hills.

Fullerton committed six errors and nine of the Highlanders’ runs were unearned. La Habra’s Rick Martinez had four hits and scored three runs, Aaron Yessian had three hits, including two doubles, and two RBIs and Dan Quesada had two hits and three RBIs for La Habra (6-10, 2-7).

In other Freeway League games:

Sunny Hills 7, Buena Park 4--Scott Warkentin went two for two with a triple and two runs scored for Sunny Hills (9-9-1, 5-4). Teammate Mike Guzman had two doubles and two RBIs. Buena Park is 10-7, 6-3.

Sonora 11, Troy 2--Erik Julin’s bases-loaded triple keyed an eight-run third inning for host Sonora (8-11, 2-7). Ryan Owens was three for three with an RBI, and Junior Rodriguez (4-4) pitched a four-hitter, striking out four. Troy, which was top-ranked in the county at one point this season, is 12-6, 5-4.

In the Arrowhead League:

Southern California Christian 6, Life Christian 4--Les Allen was three for three with four stolen bases for SCC (11-2-1, 4-0).

In the Century League:

Canyon 12, Orange 8--Casey Wolf went four for four with two RBIs, Gunnar Strunz added two hits and four RBIs and Greg Jacobs pitched six innings and struck out 10 for Canyon (14-4, 7-1).

Villa Park 5, Foothill 1--Matt Brady was three for three with three RBIs, and Matt Parker had two hits and scored two runs for host Villa Park (11-8, 5-4). Foothill is 9-10, 5-4.

Santa Ana Valley 3, El Modena 2--Jesse Garcia stole home in the fourth inning and that proved to be the winning run for Santa Ana Valley (10-9, 5-4). Ricky Chavez had two RBIs for the Falcons.

In the Empire League:

El Dorado 7, Katella 3--El Dorado’s Benito Flores pitched a two-hitter and overcame 10 walks to help El Dorado (14-6, 6-3) move into a first-place tie with host Katella (12-7-1, 6-3).

Flores, who struck out two, gave up only a double to Dave Rojo and a two-run, fifth-inning single to Marcello Miranda.

Jerry Weitzman had two hits, two runs and two RBIs and Trent Cuevas had a two-run triple and a sacrifice fly for the Golden Hawks.

In the Express League:

Heritage Christian 17, Huntington Beach Claremont 0 (5, mercy)--Eric Carrion had three doubles and six RBIs for Heritage Christian (7-5, 2-1).

In the Olympic League:

Calvary Chapel 10, Capistrano Valley Christian 0--Chance King had two hits and four RBIs for host Calvary Chapel (11-7, 3-3).

In the Orange League:

Brea-Olinda 2, Savanna 1--Trevor Lords hit a two-run single in the top of the second, and pitchers Bryan Robinson (6-2) and Ryan Knuth held Savanna to four hits for No. 1 Brea-Olinda (17-2, 7-2).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Century 8, Costa Mesa 7--Century rallied from a 6-2 deficit with six runs in the sixth, on one hit, Art Tapia’s three-run triple. Tapia had two hits in the game.

Eric Estrella’s three-run triple helped Costa Mesa (5-14, 1-8) to a five-run fourth inning.

Trabuco Hills 7, Laguna Beach 2--Brian Costello had three hits, including two doubles and two RBIs, for 10th-ranked Trabuco Hills (14-5, 9-0).

Laguna Hills 3, Estancia 2--Brett Nista hit a home run and Ian Jensen doubled, tripled, scored a run and drove in a run for visiting Laguna Hills (8-9, 5-4).

In the Sea View League:

Woodbridge 5, Santa Margarita 0--Josh Tourtellott pitched a three-hitter, struck out 11 and walked four for host Woodbridge (8-12, 5-3). Santa Margarita is 10-8, 6-2; both league losses are to Woodbridge.

Corona del Mar 10, University 8--The Sea Kings rallied in the top of the seventh, scoring six runs on six hits, including three consecutive two-out doubles. Myles Davis doubled in the tying run and Jeff Bowman doubled in Davis for the victory. Corona del Mar is 14-5, 5-3.

Tustin 4, Saddleback 3--Julio Villalobos had two hits and two RBIs, including the game-winning single in the fourth inning, for Tustin (15-5, 7-1).

John Lauderdale had two doubles for Tillers.

In the South Coast League:

Mater Dei 5, Capistrano Valley 0--In his first start since his no-hitter against San Clemente last week, Adam Harris pitched a one-hitter, striking out seven. Harris has given up only two hits in his last three starts. Brad Ticehurst hit his fourth homer in four games for the host Monarchs (13-5-1, 8-1).

El Toro 5, Mission Viejo 4--Jake Steel hit a two-run homer in the second and Michael Wennekamp drove in two runs with a single in the third as the host Chargers took a 5-1 lead. El Toro (12-8, 4-5), who received three of its six bases on balls in the third inning, then hung on for the victory.

Dana Hills 4, San Clemente 1--Seth Etherton (7-0) had nine strikeouts and one walk and gave up six hits to lead Dana Hills (11-9-1, 6-3).
