Anaheim : City Expected to OK Repairs to Stadium
The City Council tonight is expected to approve spending $245,000 for design and other work to prepare for repairs to Anaheim Stadium, which sustained about $5 million in damage during the Northridge earthquake. Hellmuth, Obata and Kasabaum Inc. Sports Facility Group will perform architectural and engineering work, which will aid in the rebuilding of damaged portions of the stadium and in the installation of a new Sony Jumbotron scoreboard.
The stadium’s 17.5-ton scoreboard and 23 tons of supporting structures fell during the Jan. 17 quake, knocking out 2,000 seats, two restrooms and a concession stand. The city will pay for the repair project with its stadium reserve fund account. Officials say the repairs should be completed by mid-August.
