Mumford, Brown Named Anteater MVPs

Senior guard Lloyd Mumford and junior guard Chris Brown were named most valuable players for UC Irvine basketball at the school’s awards banquet Thursday night.

Mumford set a school record with 171 assists and averaged 13.4 points last season. Brown was UC Irvine’s leading scorer with 17.4 points per game and led the nation in three-point field goals made per game at 4.7. Brown set a UCI record with 122 three-pointers last season.

Junior forward LaDay Smith received the top defensive player award and junior guard Zuri Williams was chosen most improved player. Senior center DeForrest Boyer won the Michelle Smith-Pontell Academic Challenge award.

Six players were honored Thursday night at the Cal State Fullerton basketball banquet.

Senior guard Greg Vernon was chosen the most improved player with junior guard James French getting the top defender and top foul shooter awards. Junior forward Winston Peterson was the top rebounder. Junior guard Danny Robinson received the award as the top team player and senior forward Todd Satalowich received the academics award. All were chosen by the Titan coaches.

Freshman guard Chris St. Clair was honored as “Mr. Hustle,” an award selected by the Playmakers support group.
