To promote bike safety and the use of helmets, young people are invited to pedal through a bicycle obstacle course at the third annual Drug Abuse Resistance Education festival today at McDonnell Douglas.

Sponsored by the Police Department’s DARE program and the local aerospace company, the event is geared for the entire family, Officer Bert Adkins said. Adkins, who is organizing the festival, said children may bring their own bikes to use in the safety proficiency course or ride bikes that will be available. Bike safety checks will also be conducted, and bikes and helmets will be given away.

The event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., will also feature educational and informational demonstrations, a police helicopter display, a classic car display and a performance by the GT bike team, Adkins said. Batman and the Batmobile will make an appearance.
