A two-alarm fire caused an estimated $105,000 in damage to a Thousand Oaks home about noon Saturday, a Ventura County Fire Department spokeswoman said.

The fire began in the attic of the garage and spread into the west wing of the home, according to the spokeswoman, who said investigators had not discovered a cause.

Mark Koenig, 25, who lives in the house with his mother, said he was heading home on a lunch break from his job as a car wash attendant when he was passed by firefighters.

“I saw this big plume of smoke and said, ‘Wow it looks like something near my house is on fire,’ ” he said.

When he arrived, firefighters were already pouring water on the blazing garage as the fire spread into the house.

“I commend (the firefighters) for doing a good job. They saved this half of the house,” Koenig said, pointing to the undamaged east side of the home.

It took firefighters about 40 minutes to douse the blaze, the spokeswoman said. No one was injured, she said.
