The Times began the Community Partnership Awards in 1990 to recognize nonprofit organizations that provide outstanding services.

“The demands placed on local nonprofit organizations, especially over the last few months, have been overwhelming,” said Jeffrey S. Klein, the president of The Times’ Valley and Ventura editions. “The Community Partnership Awards are an opportunity for The Times to honor these organizations for their tireless efforts to improve the quality of life in our community.”

Winners were chosen by an 11-member panel of community and business leaders, including: Rev. Arthur Broadous, program coordinator, Pacoima Community Youth Culture Center; Linda Chadwick, vice president, The Valencia Company; Dr. George Fischbeck, KABC-TV; David Fleming, attorney, Latham & Watkins; Nina Frazier, administrator, Antelope Valley Senior Center; Barbara Gutierrez, principal, Canoga Park Elementary School; Janice Kamenir-Reznik, attorney, Reznik & Reznik; Dr. Joyce Kennedy, director, Ventura Campus of California State University-Northridge; Joy Picus, retired City Councilwoman; Maurice O.
