PASADENA : Proposed Budget of $124.5 Million Averts Cuts, Adds Services
Pasadena City Manager Philip A. Hawkey this week submitted a proposed $124.5-million budget for the coming year that avoids cuts and includes small increases in recreational and street-sweeping services.
The city will hold public hearings before voting on the spending plan, which covers the year starting July 1 and ending June 30, 1995.
Pasadena will be able to keep the 10 police positions added after voters approved the extension of a statewide half-cent sales tax last November. The city also is expected to save more than $2 million in debt service payments because of lower interest rates.
Nevertheless, projected revenues are expected to fall about $230,000 short of expenditures for the year. But Hawkey said there should be enough money left unspent from the current year to cover the shortfall. The city has a general fund reserve of about $10 million, which will be maintained Hawkey said.
