A woman and young girl were struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver Wednesday while in the intersection of Montague Street and Laurel Canyon Boulevard, authorities said.

The unidentified victims were described as a Latina woman in her 30s and a young girl about 12 years old, said Frank Zdroy of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

Investigators believe the car involved was a red Mustang. Red paint chips and pieces of a broken headlight were found at the scene, Zdroy said, and there was evidence that the car’s left front section as well as a headlight were damaged in the collision.

The front windshield also may have been cracked or shattered, he said.

Police were searching for the motorist late Wednesday night, Zdroy said.
