ROUNDUP : North Hollywood Wins 1st Game in Valley Pac-8 With 7-5 Victory

North Hollywood High’s Juan Zuniga wasn’t on the field Wednesday to enjoy the final out of the Huskies’ first Valley Pac-8 Conference victory of the season, but he helped make it possible.

Zuniga went three for four and drove in two runs in North Hollywood’s 7-5 victory over host Grant. But he was ejected in the sixth inning for commenting on an umpire’s call.

Sean Flynn went two for three and Juan Zavala was two for four for the Huskies (7-17, 1-15 in league play).

Van Nuys 5, Canoga Park 0--Sophomore Andrew Silver threw his eighth complete game for host Van Nuys (10-17, 6-10)--a Valley Pac-8 Conference two-hitter in which he struck out four and walked two. Silver added a run-scoring single in the second inning.

SOFTBALL

Montclair Prep 12, Brentwood 0--Freshman Tamra Freedman hit her 12th and 13th home runs in an eight-run seventh that featured four homers for Montclair Prep (17-3) in a Division V wild-card game. Freshman Brandi Cohen (10-3) pitched a three-hitter.

MEN’S GOLF

Cal Lutheran, in last place among 23 teams after the second round of the NCAA Division III championships, has a composite score of 654. Jason Dubrovo, tied for 45th in the individual standings, leads six Kingsmen golfers with a two-day score of 158.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Harvard-Westlake 21, North Torrance 0--No. 1 singles player Phil Tseng rolled to 6-0, 6-2 and 6-3 victories as Harvard-Westlake swept North Torrance in a first-round match of the Southern Section Division II playoffs.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Village Christian d. Villanova Prep, 15-5, 15-11, 15-5--Chad Hanson had 18 kills for host Village Christian (15-2), and Brodie McClain added nine kills and three aces in a Division III second-round playoff match.
