SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

A Newhall man was stabbed three times while trying to prevent a fight between two men Sunday night, authorities reported.

Gabriel Guerra, 34, was stabbed about 9:20 p.m. in a parking lot in the 24800 block of Newhall Avenue, according to a report by Deputy Joe Skophammer of the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s station. The assailant, believed to be in his early to mid-20s, remains at large.

A 10-year-old girl who witnessed the incident told deputies she saw Guerra step between two men who appeared as if they were going to fight. One of them stabbed Guerra and both fled the scene.

Guerra was “very uncooperative” with investigating deputies, stating he did not want to report the incident and did not want to press charges against his assailant, Skophammer said. Guerra told deputies that he did not know the two men and could not identify them if he saw them again.

He was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, where he was treated for three stab wounds just below the left side of his chest and other minor injuries, according to the report. Hospital officials said he remained at the hospital Monday.
