PASADENA : Council OKs Contract for Pipeline Consultant

Share

The City Council has voted to pay a consultant up to $3.7 million to engineer and manage construction of a pipeline to bring reclaimed water from a Glendale plant into Pasadena.

The council awarded the contract to Montgomery Watson Americas. The cost of the system, which includes pumps, is estimated at $26.4 million, said spokesman George Morrow. The council must arrange financing, possibly by issuing bonds, and award a construction contract before reclaimed water flows into Pasadena in spring, 1996.

Once the system is built, Pasadena expects to satisfy about 10% of its needs with reclaimed water, which is safe for irrigation and manufacturing uses but not for drinking.
