I HAD A FATHER: A Post-Modern Autobiography by Clark Blaise (Addison-Wesley: $12.; 204 pp.). As a child, Wesley had to endure his father’s womanizing, shady dealings and pathological lies. He attempts to come to grips with his pain in these fragmented recollections of a search for identity that lead to an ancestral home in rural Quebec and provided insights into his own interracial marriage. Unfortunately, the author’s moments of genuine insight get buried in rambling attempts to mythologize his condition.
