Pepperdine shortstop Erik Martinez, a North Hollywood High graduate, signed with the San Diego Padres and leaves today for training camp before reporting to the Spokane Indians of the Northwest League.

Martinez, a 5-foot-9, 160-pound senior who played center field three previous seasons at Pepperdine and Pierce College, batted .315, had eight doubles and 21 stolen bases in 26 attempts. He was drafted in the 24th round.
