LAGUNA NIGUEL : Budget Meeting Open to the Public Today

Share

The first public workshop on the city’s $16.1-million budget for the 1994-95 fiscal year will be today.

The meeting is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the council chambers, 27801 La Paz Road.

The budget calls for a spending decrease of 18%, but a 1% increase in police services funding. City officials recommended hiring two additional sheriff’s deputies to patrol Laguna Niguel at a cost of $213,000.

City Manager Tim Casey said per capita spending is expected to drop from $369 to $306 next year.

The main reason for that, he said, was that the city has completed several large construction projects that were funded by state and county grants or fees.

The major projects planned for next year include developing the Crown Royale park with $50,000 in city money and creating Cabot-Colinas Park at Paseo de Colinas and Cabot Road.

The new park would cost $175,000 to install a sidewalk, a tot lot and two half-court basketball courts.

The land will be donated by the Colinas de Capistrano Homeowners Assn., which will pay for the park’s design and maintenance.
