The semifinals and finals will be played June 26 at Compton College beginning at 10 a.m.

Area schools scheduled to compete: Bell, Belmont, Dorsey, Fremont, Garfield, Huntington Park, Jordan, Lincoln, Locke, Los Angeles, Loyola, Manual Arts, Pilgrim, Roosevelt, South Gate, Verbum Dei, Washington and Wilson.

The tournament will showcase some of the area’s top returning players. Leading the list are Jordan’s Clem Breedlove and Loyola’s Ryan (Moose) Bailey.

Breedlove, a 1994 City Times second-team all-star, averaged 20 points a game for the Bulldogs and will be Coach Ed Kamiyama’s primary weapon next season.

“Clem’s role will be to knock down the three-point shot,” Kamiyama said. “He will be the premier man.”

Bailey will attempt to carry on the family legacy and pick up the leadership role provided for four years by older brother, Toby, who will play at UCLA this fall.

Moose Bailey was Loyola’s second leading scorer last season, averaging 17 points. He had a team-high 20 points in the Cubs’ 78-60 loss to Mater Dei in the Southern Section Division I-A semifinals.
