SAN FERNANDO : Electrical Short Forces Evacuation
An electrical short forced the temporary evacuation of about a dozen workers from the old San Fernando police station Tuesday, causing no injuries but a few bad cases of deja vu.
The station is now being used by the Los Angeles city attorney’s office, whose offices at the San Fernando Courthouse were deemed unsafe after the Northidge earthquake.
“First the earthquake, now this,” said Paula Zamacona, a deputy city attorney. “We’ve had so many things happen that we just keep a camera handy.”
But evacuation of the makeshift office at the police station, 120 MacNeil St., was short-lived.
Firefighters responding to a complaint of smoke coming from a vent about 10:30 a.m. discovered that it was only an electrical problem with the air-conditioning system.
Electrical workers from the city of San Fernando were called to fix the problem. Workers from the city attorney’s office were back in the building by 2 p.m.
