ALHAMBRA : Police Assn. Threatens Pickets for Lack of Raise

Share

The Alhambra Police Officers Assn. is threatening to picket local events and council members’ homes after a city mailer to residents revealed a $1.14-million budget surplus at a time when officers have been told there is no money for a 6% pay raise. Association leaders are targeting the July 4 celebration at Almansor Park.

After two months, contract talks between the officers and the city have stalled with the city offering 3% and officers demanding 6%. City officials say they still cannot afford the increase without new taxes, fees, service cuts or layoffs. The city’s budget for fiscal year 1994-95 is $88 million.
