Coach: Suzanne Manlet

School: SIMI VALLEY

Simi Valley failed to repeat as Southern Section champion--losing to Lompoc, 2-0, in the second round of the playoffs--but Manlet led the Pioneers to a 24-3 record despite several off-the-field distractions.

Student: Shane Anderson

School: LA REINA

Position: IF

Anderson, a junior shortstop, was named all-state and was the Tri-Valley’s player of the year. She set school records with eight homers and 31 RBIs. She batted .384 with a .781 slugging percentage.

Student: Jessie Davenport

School: THOUSAND OAKS

Position: P

Don’t be fooled by her 9-9 record. This junior was one of the region’s finest pitchers. Davenport struck out 131 in 124 innings and finished with a 0.32 ERA. Seven of her victories were shutouts.

Student: Julie Difatta

School: SIMI VALLEY

Position: C

Difatta caught Sara Griffin, whose riseballs reached speeds of over 60 m.p.h. She had to be on her toes, and she was, allowing only four passed balls in 27 games. She batted .238, collecting 19 hits.

Student: Kristi Fox

School: NEWBURY PARK

Position: P-UT

Although she’s the second finest pitcher in the county, Fox also played four other positions. She finished 10-4 with a 0.47 ERA and nine shutouts. Fox struck out 118 in 105 1/3 innings and allowed just 33 hits.

Student: Sara Griffin

School: SIMI VALLEY

Position: P

One of the top recruits in the country, Griffin was 21-2, pitched 16 shutouts and two no-hitters. She struck out 252 in 183 innings and walked 14. Of the seven runs she gave up, only four were earned.

Student: Tracy Hansen

School: SIMI VALLEY

Position: IF

After batting .192 in preseason games, Hansen hit a team-high .371 in Marmonte League. She finished with a .269 average, 10 RBIs, three triples and two doubles. Hansen made only one error all season.

Student: Sarah Heiler

School: LA REINA

Position: OF

Heiler led the team with 37 hits and a .440 batting average. She scored 18 runs and stole 13 bases. She struck out only seven times in 84 at-bats and had La Reina’s only hit against in the quarterfinals.

Student: Kim Herman

School: BUENA

Position: C

Herman, a junior, had an unusual workload, catching four different pitchers. But she made her greatest mark as a hitter, batting .397 with three home runs, a triple, two doubles, 17 RBIs and 20 runs.

Student: Kelly Lovato

School: ROYAL

Position: P

This senior right-hander gave virtually nothing away. She allowed just 58 hits and 21 walks in 113 innings. She finished 10-7 with a 0.43 ERA and struck out 121. Also a switch hitter who batted .229.

Student: Tracy Milburn

School: MOORPARK

Position: OF

Milburn is a freshman with great promise. The Musketeers were a hard-hitting bunch this season, batting .370, and Milburn was their leader. The center fielder batted .500 with 28 runs and 21 RBIs.

Student: Tricia Polhert

School: ROYAL

Position: IF

Drake-bound Polhert was a prime candidate for player of the year until an ankle injury cut short her season by eight games. Still, she batted .415 with an on-base average of .455 and led the team with 17 hits.

Student: Bevan Trueblood

School: BUENA

Position: IF

Trueblood, a junior first baseman, batted .413 with 18 RBIs, four doubles, two triples and scored 20 runs. An excellent fielder, She made only four errors in 181 chances for a sparkling .978 percentage.

Student: Kristy Weber

School: BUENA

Position: OF

Weber, a center fielder who will play for Toledo, led the Bulldogs with a .506 batting average. Talk about consistency, Weber hit safely in 24 of the Bulldogs’ 27 games and collected 22 RBIs and 22 runs.

1st-Team All-Stars Invited to Times’ Awards Ceremony

Players selected to the All-Valley and All-Ventura County baseball and softball teams are invited to a Times’ awards brunch Sunday at 9 a.m. at the Warner Center Marriott in Woodland Hills. The guest speaker is Rich Hill, baseball coach at University of San Francisco who formerly coached at Cal Lutheran.
