CAMARILLO : Controlled Brush Fire Drill Planned Today
Gearing up for a busy fire season, firefighters will race to a preset brush fire in Camarillo today to test their skills while reducing brush in the area.
The controlled burn, planned for 9 a.m., will be set across 12 acres of light brush just outside the north entrance of Camarillo State Hospital.
Fire officials said they are confident they have created safe conditions for the drill. A path has been cleared around the field and crews from the Ventura County, Oxnard, Ventura, California Department of Forestry and Los Angeles County fire departments will be on hand.
The burn will be postponed if high winds create too great a hazard, officials said.
