Seal Beach : Humane Society Out to License Pets

Share

Workers from the Humane Society will canvass city streets over the next few weeks in a campaign to encourage pet owners to obtain licenses for their dogs and cats.

All neighborhoods in the city will be targeted, said City Manager Jerry L. Bankston, who estimated that 15% to 20% of Seal Beach pets do not have proper registrations.

The city will spend about $6,000 on the effort but expects to receive $15,000 in new pet license fees, Bankston said.

The push to license pets comes as the city recently set up a new computer system that will store all animal control records.

Pet owners will be able to purchase licenses from the Humane Society workers, who also will distribute information about rabies vaccinations.
