A Simi Valley summer school student turned herself in Thursday to police, admitting she had slashed a 13-year-old girl with a razor knife during a fight, police said.

Lt. Mark Layhew said the victim was leaving summer school classes at Hillside Junior High School at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday when a 14-year-old classmate walked up and began cursing at her.

A fight ensued and the 14-year-old attacked the younger girl with a small, retractable razor knife such as those used to open boxes, Layhew said.

The victim suffered cuts to her upper and lower chest and arm and abrasions to her upper chest, Layhew said. Her brother drove her to Simi Valley Hospital.

She was treated and released, a hospital official said.

The attacker turned herself in to Simi Valley police late Thursday afternoon. She was issued a citation for assault with a deadly weapon and released to her mother’s custody, Layhew said. The girl’s case will be handled by the county probation department, he said.
