Former Dallas Cowboy running back Tony Dorsett, who will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame July 30, posted $200 bail for illegally carrying a gun, police officials in Dallas said.

Dorsett, 40, was arrested when officers found a .380-caliber gun in his car after pulling him over for speeding.

Dorsett said an officer recommended he carry the gun for protection after his home recently was burglarized.

Meanwhile, free agent Frank Cornish, the Cowboys’ top reserve offensive lineman, signed with the Minnesota Vikings.

Cornish, who started five games at center over the past two seasons, signed a one-year contract worth $350,000.

Bernard Williams, a first-round draft pick of the Philadelphia Eagles, filed a complaint against Memphis police after his arrest on disorderly conduct charges. Williams, 21, contends he was mistreated by officers who arrested him at his residence Saturday, a police spokeswoman said. . . . . Washington Redskins quarterback Heath Shuler and other rookies took part in light drills and passing Monday while team officials worked to get their unsigned players under contract. Shuler, the third player chosen in the draft, remains unsigned, and five other rookies are also without contracts.
