SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Authorities are searching for a man who assaulted and attempted to rape a female employee in a restroom at Six Flags Magic Mountain, causing her to be treated for multiple injuries at a local hospital.

The 39-year-old victim told sheriff’s deputies that she believes a maintenance employee at the park is responsible for the attack, said Sgt. Howard Fairchild of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Fairchild said the assailant apparently was wearing an employee uniform, but investigators are unsure if the assailant worked at the amusement park.

The attack occurred about 10:30 a.m. Thursday when the victim went into an “out of the way” restroom for women employees, Fairchild said. The restroom was empty except for the assailant.

“She got thrown around the room quite a bit,” Fairchild said.

The man fled and the woman stumbled out of the restroom and notified another employee about the attempted rape, Fairchild said. Deputies and park officials questioned employees on duty, but none matched the description provided by the victim, he said.

The woman was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released, said Susan Mandy, a hospital spokeswoman. She was briefly readmitted for treatment Friday, but a Six Flags official said the woman suffers from a stomach condition.

Police describe the suspect as a 36- to 40-year-old Latino, 5 feet, 8 inches tall, 165 pounds, with straight collar-length dark hair.
