Judge Rules Against Manual Vote Recount

Ventura accountant Scott Weiss, who failed by one vote to qualify for a runoff in the race for county auditor-controller, has lost his bid to force the county to do a manual recount.

Superior Court Judge Melinda A. Johnson ruled Thursday that county elections officials acted properly by discounting ballots on which voters punched holes next to two or more candidates and ballots in which no holes were punched in the auditor’s race.

Weiss has contended that he would have edged out opponent Richard Morrisset in the June 7 election had those ballots been counted. Morrisset will face appointed Auditor-Controller Thomas O. Mahon in a runoff in November.
