The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox each scored only one run Thursday, but that was all they needed to gain a victory as the teams completed a suspended game from Wednesday night and played their regularly scheduled contest at New York.

Tom Brunansky hit a home run, and Joe Hesketh (7-5)--with help from three relievers--held the Yankees to four hits to give the Red Sox a 1-0 victory in the second game.

“Most of the day, I was keeping the ball down,” Hesketh said. “I was getting the majority of the guys I got out today out with sliders.”

In the first game, Albert Belle hit his seventh homer in nine games and Sandy Alomar hit a three-run homer off Mike Mussina (14-5), providing Jack Morris (10-6) with enough runs for the Indians.

In the second game, the Indians took a 2-0 lead against Sid Fernandez (6-6) when Murray homered after Belle’s single. Kenny Lofton’s double and Manny Ramierez’s single made it 3-0 in the sixth.

Detroit 4, Seattle 2--Mickey Tettleton’s two-run home run in the 11th inning gave the Tigers their first three-game winning streak at Detroit in more than six weeks.

Milt Cuyler started the inning with a single off Bobby Ayala (4-3), the third Seattle pitcher. Tettleton, who had only one run batted in since July 4, then hit his 15th homer.
