Webber, Starks, Richmond Join Magic in All-Star Game

Forward Chris Webber of the Golden State Warriors, the NBA’s rookie of the year, and All-Star guards John Starks of the New York Knicks, Mitch Richmond of the Sacramento Kings and Gary Payton of the Seattle SuperSonics will play in Magic Johnson’s ninth annual Mid-Summer Night’s Magic charity basketball game tonight at 7:30 at the Forum.

Johnson, who led the Lakers to five NBA titles, will lead the U.S. All-Stars against the California All-Stars led by Payton, University of California guard Jason Kidd, the second pick in the NBA draft, and Phoenix Sun forward Cedric Ceballos.

Others who will play include Purdue forward Glenn Robinson, the top choice in the draft; Clipper guards Ron Harper and Pooh Richardson, Indiana Pacer guard Mark Jackson, Dallas Maverick forward Jamal Mashburn, Orlando Magic guard Anfernee Hardaway, Washington Bullet forward Don MacLean and Portland Trail Blazer forward Tracy Murray.

Billy Crystal and Arsenio Hall will be the coaches for the game, which benefits the United Negro College Fund.

The game will be preceded by a celebrity game at 6 p.m. with actors Tom Cruise and Malcolm Jamal Warner and rapper Hammer among those scheduled to participate.
