PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE NFL : Cowboys’ Lassic Likely to Miss Season
Dallas Cowboys running back Derrick Lassic, backup to Emmitt Smith, faces surgery this week for a torn knee tendon and likely will miss the entire season. Lassic injured the quadriceps tendon in his right knee during Sunday night’s exhibition victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
Former first-round draft pick Kelly Stouffer was waived by the Miami Dolphins, meaning Doug Pederson will likely be the team’s No. 3 quarterback this season.
Buddy Ryan returned a $20,000 pay cut he had forced linebacker Garth Jax to accept. It had been the second pay cut in two years for the ninth-year player.
Moe Elewonibi, who started 15 games at offensive tackle after Jim Lachey was injured last preseason, was released by Washington. The Redskins were apparently looking to make room under the salary cap in order to sign quarterback Heath Shuler, their No. 1 draft choice.
