A 68-year-old Ventura woman died early Tuesday of injuries suffered when the car she was riding in broadsided another vehicle at a traffic light in Oxnard, authorities said.

Takako Rogers complained of chest pains after the accident at 3:42 p.m. Monday, but it wasn’t until she reached the hospital that doctors realized the seriousness of her internal injuries.

She died about 1 a.m. Tuesday after undergoing emergency surgery at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens said.

According to police, the accident happened when Rogers’ 64-year-old husband, Blake, ran a red light on Ventura Road and slammed into a van making a left turn on 7th Street.

The driver of the van was not injured.

The Rogerses’ two granddaughters, ages 10 and 8, were riding in the back seat but were not hurt.
