WEST ADAMS : Stop-In Center Gives Access to Police
The Wilshire Division of the Police Department has opened a police-community stop-in center at 4012 Washington Blvd.
The Washington Square facility is intended to improve community access to not only Los Angeles police officers, but also school district and Metropolitan Transit Authority officers. They will all use the centrally located center to do administrative work, take police reports on site and provide the public with general information and referrals.
The center will also be used for community events such as Neighborhood Watch meetings and after-school activities, said Harvard Heights Assn. member Harold Smith.
The 2,200-square-foot center has kitchen facilities for use by the police officers, citizen volunteers and community members using the facility.
Smith said the center will allow officers to spend more time in the community because they will be able to do paperwork in the neighborhood rather than at police headquarters.
The center is a joint effort among local residents, business owners and area Neighborhood Watch groups.
